FAQs
The program is free! We are grateful to our generous funders for their support of this program.
No! Anyone who is interested in completing one or more modules may register in the program.
We require participants to create an account before enrolling in any modules. We do this so we can provide a certificate of completion for each module you complete.
We recommend you start with the module on our Canadian Legal System. Then complete the Advocate for Your Client module to understand your role as a justice navigator and the Legal Info vs. Advice module to explore the very important distinction between legal information and legal advice. These three modules provide a foundation to help you better understand the remaining modules, which dive into a variety of legal topics and may be completed in any order.
No! You can start a module and come back to finish it later.
If you want the content read aloud to you, you must use a screen reader or browser extension. Unfortunately, there is no read aloud option within the modules themselves.
If you’re using a screen reader: Some of the modules contain a sorting activity that may not be compatible with all screen readers. We suggest using JAWS for Microsoft Windows on a laptop or desktop computer (rather than a mobile device). If your screen reader loses focus during the activity, navigate by headings to find the activity again.
You will receive a certificate of completion for each module you successfully complete. We do not provide a certificate of completion for the program if you complete all 12 modules.
There are a few things you can check:
- Did you enroll in the module? You technically can complete the module without enrolling in it. But if you don’t enroll, you don’t get a certificate of completion. If you’ve completed the module but not yet enrolled, simply click on the button to enroll in the module, open the module again and then exit the module by clicking on “Exit Course” in the top right corner. Your certificate should now appear in your profile.
- Does the navigation panel on the left side in the module show 100% complete? If not, you’ve missed something! The certificate only appears once the module is 100% complete and you’ve exited the module tab/window.
- Have you refreshed the page? The last resort! You can try refreshing the page that has the module description and instructions for accessing the course. But make sure you’ve completed steps one and two first.
If your certificate still doesn’t appear, please email us at navigatortraining@cplea.ca.
Maybe you mistyped something (it happens!) or your name or email has changed. Please email us at navigatortraining@cplea.ca with the current name/email on your account and what name/email you’d like to appear on your account. We’ll get that changed for you!
We invite you to fill out our contact form or email navigatortraining@cplea.ca. Someone from our team will follow up with you!
